4/17/13

one night in my attic
you placed a map, on tiptoes
above my bed
told me about all the places we would go
while I kissed the flesh
on the inside of your ankle
you lost your balance
and fell into the arms I vowed
 you could always trust

That night I rattled off
All the reasons we should be together
When you asked me about her, I lied
Spoke of invisible truths and concrete walls
In order to distract you
I mentioned the scar on your neck
The one that is shaped like the country
Your grandmother is from
I said your lips tasted like pepper
And that you were always running laps
 in my mind

That we are two copies of the same soul
and on some days I feel I could
give you the World,
If you let me.
