A week after I swallowed those pills that
Turned my mouth into a horse-track
And my tongue
galloped lengths around your ears
I had told you I loved you
Now, when I remember
I have to remind myself
That it was those pills
That made my heart race
when we got
breakfast
your eyes still filled with wandering dust
While my ears had been submerged in water
It is no wonder
I misheard your words for love
I am bleeding
on you back door step
Apologizing from my liquid lungs
I could have sworn
I had mentioned
That my heart was a gun.
